HOUSTON, TX – February 6, 2012 – Macari-Healey Publishing Company, LLC, of Golden, Colorado has purchased Community Media of Colorado from ASP Westward.  The Houston-based newspaper publisher had owned CMC since 2002.  ASP Westward also operates newspapers in suburban Houston and east Texas.

Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, a newspaper merger and acquisition firm in Santa Fe, New Mexico, represented ASP Westward in the transaction.

CMC publishes 12 community newspapers with distribution to more than 125,000 households along Colorado’s Front Range south of Denver and north of Colorado Springs.  The weeklies reach highly desirable communities including Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree and Monument.

Macari-Healey is a newly-formed company.  The president and CEO is veteran publisher Jerry Healey.

“We are pleased that CMC will be in good hands,” said James Hopson, president of ASP Westward.  “Jerry Healey is a smart and energetic publisher who knows the market well.”

“I am grateful to CMC president Jim Diaz and our Colorado colleagues for their dedicated service,” Hopson said. “They have served their communities and customers well, and their skill and hard work has made CMC a solid publishing franchise.”

Diaz will remain with Macari-Healey as general manager.

Healey, who owned CMC’s Englewood, Littleton and Highlands Ranch newspapers from 1992 to 1997 said, “Community media is more relevant than ever and we plan on increasing the relevance of our newspapers and websites over the coming months.  My family and I are looking forward to the challenges and fulfillment that owning this company will bring”
