BOERNE TX, June 30, 2004 – Dennis Thomas, president of Texas Heritage Newspapers, LLC announced today that he has sold The Boerne (TX) Hill Country Recorder and the Bandera (TX) Review to Hill Country Newspapers, effective today. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, a newspaper merger-and-acquisition firm in Santa Fe, New Mexico, represented the Dennis Thomas in the transaction.

The two weekly newspapers, which have combined paid circulation of 6,500, will merge with the Boerne Star and the Bandera Bulletin, respectively, which are published by Hill Country Newspapers.

"We are very excited about combining the strengths of the Recorder and the Review with those of the Star and the Bulletin to form two even better newspapers, said Hill Country Newspapers president and Boerne Star publisher Brian Cartwright.

Dennis Thomas said, "I have thoroughly enjoyed owning these two newspapers and appreciate the hard work of my employees and the support of the community. Consolidating the ownership of newspapers in communities of this size makes good economic sense and in the long term will better serve the community."

Hill Country Newspapers, a subsidiary of Granite Publications, also publishes the 4,900-circulation daily Taylor (TX) Press, and ten additional weekly newspapers in Texas, with combined circulation of 31,500.
