Colorado Daily Sold to E.W. Scripps CompanyBack to News

BOULDER, CO, September 28, 2005 – Colorado Daily owner Randy Miller announced Monday that he is selling the Colorado Daily and its affiliated publications to the E.W. Scripps Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The transaction is expected to close at the end of September. Terms were not disclosed.

Miller will continue to serve as president, publisher and editor of the paper and the Colorado Daily will continue to operate as an independent organization without change in its editorial direction or the focus of its news coverage.

Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, a newspaper merger-and-acquisition firm in Santa Fe, New Mexico, advised Randy Miller in the transaction.

Miller said the Scripps purchase would give the paper "more key resources to continue our growth and provide our employees with significant improvements in benefits and employment opportunities."

Originally the University of Colorado’s student newspaper, the Colorado Daily became independent in 1971. Miller’s New Colorado Daily, Inc. purchased the paper in 2001.

Scripps has a strong presence in the local newspaper market as owner of the Daily Camera in Boulder and the Rocky Mountain News in Denver. E.W. Scripps is a diverse media company with interests in television, newspapers, interactive media and licensing and syndication. The company operates daily and community newspapers in 19 markets.
