BRYAN, TX – June 12, 2012 – The Omaha World-Herald Company, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, has agreed to acquire the Bryan-College Station (TX) Eagle from The Evening Post Publishing Company of Charleston, South Carolina. The transaction is expected to close June 30th.
Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, a newspaper merger and acquisition firm in Santa Fe, New Mexico, represented The Evening Post Publishing Company in the transaction.
The Eagle is a 20,000 circulation daily newspaper serving Brazos County, Texas and the surrounding areas. Jim Wilson, the Eagle’s publisher, will continue in that capacity with the new ownership.
“We’re delighted to have the Bryan-College Station Eagle join our growing family of newspapers,” said Terry Kroeger, CEO of the Omaha World-Herald Company. “We have admired this market for many years, with its great assets led by Texas A&M University.”
No major changes are planned at the Eagle, Kroeger said. "We will work with the local managers at the Eagle to determine some system or other changes. We’re fortunate to have a leader of Jim Wilson’s ability running this newspaper, and we look forward to the opportunity to work with him" he said.
Evening Post CEO, John Barnwell, said “we have been very proud owners of The Eagle, and we will miss our relationship with all of the talented employees who produce such a great product each and every day. Fortunately, we are passing on our stewardship to a world class organization, and we are happy to know that our good friends at The Eagle will have a bright and exciting future.”
