The Sun Signs Deal for Hershey Chronicle SubscribersBack to News

YARDLEY, PA, January 28, 2009 – The Journal Register Company has sold the assets of The Hershey Chronicle to The Sun of Hummelstown, PA. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, a newspaper merger-and-acquisition firm in Santa Fe, New Mexico, represented Journal Register Company in the transaction.

“We know how important local news is to the readers of the Chronicle,” said David Buffington, Editor of The Sun. “And now, all of us at The Sun are looking forward to bringing them that local news.”

The Sun has had the highest paid circulation of any community newspaper in lower Dauphin County, and this agreement reinforces The Sun’s strong position with both subscribers and advertisers.

The Sun will begin to serve the subscribers of the Hershey Chronicle with the February 4 issue of The Sun. Additional information for subscribers and advertisers will be published in that February 4 issue.

Buffington also thanked those involved in making the agreement possible. “The circumstances here were difficult, and I very much appreciate the hard work of our staff, our counsel and the representatives of Journal Register Company.”
